Amputation Rehabilitation

Program Goal
  • To provide individuals who are recovering from either upper or lower extremity amputation an opportunity to achieve their highest level of independent functioning.
Rehabilitation Services
  • Initial and ongoing evaluation of the patient's medical and functional status by a Rehabilitation Physician
  • Rehabilitation intervention by experienced rehabilitation specialists that includes:
    • Rehabilitation Nursing
    • Physical and Occupational Therapy
    • Psychology
    • Social Services
    • Respiratory Therapy
    • Dietary Counseling

  • One-to-one therapy administered by licensed clinicians experienced in physical rehabilitation
  • Focus on improving function in:
    • mobility
    • activities of daily living

  • Evaluation of prosthesis for proper fit
  • Consultation with prosthetist for any needed modifications
  • Preparation of residual limb for prosthesis
  • Strengthening and endurance training
  • Home/work site analysis
  • Patient and family education and counseling
  • Post-discharge follow-up and support
Guidelines for Admission
  • Individual is medically stable
  • Individual demonstrates an ability to benefit from an intensive physical medicine and rehabilitation program
