Amputation Rehabilitation
Program Goal
- To provide individuals who are recovering from either upper or lower
extremity amputation an opportunity to achieve their highest level of
independent functioning.
Rehabilitation Services
- Initial and ongoing evaluation of the patient's medical and functional
status by a Rehabilitation Physician
- Rehabilitation intervention by experienced rehabilitation specialists
that includes:
- Rehabilitation Nursing
- Physical and Occupational Therapy
- Psychology
- Social Services
- Respiratory Therapy
- Dietary Counseling

- Access to a comprehensive inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation environment
- Individualized treatment plan
- One-to-one therapy administered by licensed clinicians experienced in physical rehabilitation
- Focus on improving function in:
- mobility
- activities of daily living
- psychosocial adjustment
- community access
- Evaluation of prosthesis for proper fit
- Consultation with prosthetist for any needed modifications
- Preparation of residual limb for prosthesis
- Strengthening and endurance training
- Home/work site analysis
- Patient and family education and counseling
- Post-discharge follow-up and support
Guidelines for Admission
- Individual is medically stable
- Individual demonstrates an ability to benefit from an intensive physical medicine and rehabilitation program
