Clinical Indications
  • Shortness of breath with exertion
  • Bronchospasm with wheezing
  • Excessive sputum production
  • Panic attacks/anxiety
  • Low self-esteem
  • Inability to perform daily activities
  • Complicated recovery from illness
Therapy Services
  • Instruct patient to maximize oxygen utilization
  • Educate patient to identify early warning signs of distress
  • Introduce patient to relaxation therapy
  • Endurance and strength training
  • Formulate respiratory care plan
  • Instruct patient in:
  • disease pathology
  • medications
  • panic control techniques
  • breathing retraining
  • proper breathing techniques
  • energy conservation
  • adaptive equipment
  • appropriate exercise program
  • infection control
Expected Outcomes
  • Enhanced aerobic capacity
  • Decreased emergency room visits
  • Decreased frequency and duration of hospitalization
  • Decreased dependence on oxygen
