
Dr. Willingham became medical director of the San Antonio Warm Springs Rehabilitation Hospital when it opened it doors in 1988. Dr. Willingham received his medical degree from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara, School of Medicine Guadalajara, Mexico. With nearly 20 years experience in physical medicine and rehabilitation, Dr. Willingham is regarded as a leader in the field of rehabilitation. In 1996, Dr. Willingham introduced the Intrathecal baclofen pump to San Antonio patients. Under his guidance, Warm Springs was the first facility in San Antonio to set up a spasticity clinic to monitor trials for patients with Baclofen Pump implants. Dr. Willingham also directed the first implant of the Baclofen Pump on a stroke patient in Texas. He has dedicated his career to the study and implementation of treatments for people with disabilities including stroke, brain injury, cardiac disease, head and spinal cord injury.
