WARM SPRINGS CEO RECEIVES VARIOUS HEALTHCARE AWARDSPediatric Patient to be Recognized for Will to Survive Rick Marek, FACHE, CEO and President of the Warm Springs Rehabilitation System, recently received the Distinguished Healthcare Executive Award presented by the South Texas Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and the Allen G. Herkimer Award from Texas State University Department of Health Administration. According to the South Texas Chapter of ACHE, this is the highest award bestowed to a healthcare executive. Marek was selected for his leadership, vision and contribution to advancing healthcare. The Allen G. Herkimer Award is presented to an outstanding alumnus, selected by the Health Administration faculty, based on contributions to the profession of health administration, and to Texas State University by giving guest lectures, fundraising, and serving as preceptors to students during field experience. Marek has 28 years of progressive experience in physical medicine and rehabilitation program development and operations with the Warm Springs Rehabilitation System. Marek began his career as a pharmacist at the Gonzales Warm Springs Hospital, where he later served as administrator. In 1989, he opened the San Antonio Warm Springs Hospital and served as administrator there until 1994. Since that time, he has been responsible for various corporate operations including oversight of marketing, quality initiatives, and physician relations. He also directed the opening of the Victoria Warm Springs Hospital and several outpatient clinics. In 2003, he became CEO and president of the Warm Springs Rehabilitation System. The Warm Springs Rehabilitation System has been providing rehabilitative care for patients with disabilities for more than 65 years. A not-for-profit healthcare organization, Warm Springs is committed to caring for patients with facilities in San Antonio, Victoria, Luling, Lockhart, Pearsall and Floresville. Founded in 1933, the American College of Healthcare Executives is an international professional society of 30,000 healthcare executives who lead our nation's hospitals, healthcare systems, and other healthcare organizations.
