Breathe NH Named 2011 Building New Hampshire Award Winner
Recognized for Sustainable Building and Remodeling Project
Breathe New Hampshire is among fourteen New Hampshire builders, architects, businesses and homeowners named the winners of the prestigious 2011 Building New Hampshire Awards. Winning entries were selected in recognition of their work to build, remodel, or retrofit an energy-efficient, high-performance residence or commercial building. The award-winning projects were designed and built to minimize their carbon footprint and impact on the environment.
Breathe NH was recognized for the energy-efficient revival of its new Manchester facility at 145 Hollis Street in the Millyard district. Once the home of Amoskeag Locomotive Works which began producing steam locomotives in 1849, the building has had many uses over the years.
“We’re thrilled to have earned this distinction and are especially proud of the fact that, through this renovation process, we were able to maintain the building’s historical integrity. This new environmentally-friendly facility further enhances our commitment to clean air and lung health,” said Dan Fortin, Breathe NH President and CEO.
With the help of Stibler Associates of Manchester and Bruss Construction of Bradford, NH, the building was constructed in accordance with the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Guidelines. Breathe NH is anticipating a silver level LEED certification within the coming months.
